“Embawood” Chovkan Club Played Its First Match in Azerbaijan’s First-Ever Professional Chovkan League

On May 21, the opening ceremony of the league, organized by the Azerbaijan Equestrian Federation (ARAF), took place at the Binə Equestrian Center. In his opening speech, ARAF President Elchin Guliyev stated that the tournament, featuring Karabakh horses—a symbol of Azerbaijan’s ancient heritage—would play a significant role in promoting Chovkan among the youth in Azerbaijan. Speaking about the ancient history of Chovkan, the federation head emphasized that the traditional annual Presidential Cup and the establishment of the International Chovkan Federation would positively impact the development of this sport in the country.

The event continued with a parade of the teams participating in the Professional Chovkan League. Following the parade, spectacular performances were presented, including a magnificent show by Karabakh horses at the Windsor Royal Horse Show in the UK, as well as in Turkey and Switzerland; a performance by the State Border Service’s “Cavalry” unit; the “Qavaldaş Nağara” rhythmic group; and the “Cücələrim” dance ensemble.

The “Embawood” Chovkan Club played its first match in the tournament against the “Omar” team. The match ended with a 1:0 victory for the “Omar” team.

It is worth noting that the Professional Chovkan League will consist of a total of 18 rounds. Each team will play two matches against every other team, and the winner of the tournament will be announced on December 4.
